AT BOSSYxx, WE WANT TO SEE
MORE GIRLS MAKING MUSIC!

(xx – that’s the female chromosomes, not kisses)

Based in Yangon, Myanmar, we promote female musicians and organize concerts with a majority of female artists and invite performers living in other S.E. Asian countries to drive cultural awareness, musical diversity and to inspire more and more girls to pick up drumsticks, guitars, mics etc.

In Myanmar, women outnumber men by over 2 million, however, women are hugely under-represented in the music scene.

While female singers feature occasionally in the top 20 bands in Myanmar, they predominantly sing “copy tracks” (plagiarized translations of popular western songs) and where original music is being made, women play little to no role in the creative process of composing or producing.

By showcasing and supporting female musicians, we are aiming to dissolve the gender stereotypes in Myanmar that are limiting the space for women and girls to fully participate and contribute to the expanding music scene.

BOSSYxx SEEKS TO ADDRESS THESE ISSUES BY DOING 2 THINGS:

Provide a platform for women and girls in Myanmar to perform original music by hosting events and concerts that showcase female musicians.

Provide full scholarships to attend Gitameit Music Center for women and girls who are interested in pursuing musical education and training.
